Used Škoda Superb: what to check before you buy
The Superb gives a lot of space for the money, so many were company cars and motorway cars. Mileage and servicing matter more than the year.

Translated from Romanian. These guides describe Romanian rules.
Generations
- first generation (2001–2008)
- second generation (2008–2015)
- third generation (2015–2024)
- fourth generation (from 2024)
Engines and gearboxes
- 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI in the second generation often use extra oil.
- The 6-speed oil-bath DSG (DQ250), on the more powerful engines, needs an oil change at around 60,000 km. Ask for proof.
- The 2.0 TDI and 1.6 TDI EA189 engines (roughly 2009–2015) were involved in the emissions scandal. Check whether the car received the software update.
- TDI diesels used only in town often have a clogged particulate filter and EGR valve. Ask how the car was driven.
- The 4x4 with a Haldex coupling needs the coupling oil changed regularly.
What to check at the viewing
- proof for the oil in the DSG and the 4x4 coupling
- the electronics, including the electric tailgate
- seat and steering wheel wear compared with the mileage
- mileage, via Vehicle History from the Romanian Auto Registry (RAR) or Auto-Pass on rarom.ro
- that the car has no lien (Electronic Archive of Security Interests in Movable Property, AEGRM)
