Where to find the VIN
- In the registration certificate (certificat de înmatriculare, talon), in box E, and in the vehicle identity card (cartea de identitate a vehiculului).
- On the plate in the driver's door frame or on the pillar between the doors.
- Under the windscreen, bottom left.
- Stamped into the body, usually in the engine bay.
The VIN on the car and in the papers must be identical. If it differs, don't buy the car.
How to check the car's history
- Mileage: the free RAR vehicle history service (Istoric vehicul) sends you the mileage recorded at the ITP. An Auto-Pass costs 42 lei and is issued only on rarom.ro.
- Liens: in the Electronic Archive of Movable Security Interests (AEGRM).
