Used Dacia Logan: what to check before you buy

The Logan is a simple car with cheap parts available all over the country. When buying, rust, running gear and the LPG system, where fitted, matter most.

Translated from Romanian. These guides describe Romanian rules.

Generations

  • first generation (2004–2012)
  • second generation (2012–2020)
  • third generation (from 2020)

Engines and gearboxes

  • The 1.4 and 1.6 MPI petrol engines are simple and tough.
  • The 1.5 dCi diesel is economical. At high mileage, check the injectors.
  • Factory LPG versions need the system checked regularly. Ask for the papers.
  • The turbocharged 0.9 TCe and 1.0 TCe have a timing chain and need oil changes on time.

What to check at the viewing

  • rust on the sills and chassis
  • suspension noises on a bad road
  • the LPG system's papers
  • mileage, via Vehicle History from the Romanian Auto Registry (RAR) or Auto-Pass on rarom.ro
